5 Essential Tips for a Successful Easter Egg Hunt with Kids

Orlando families know—springtime egg hunts are magical, but they can also turn chaotic without a little planning. After a few years of hopping into the Easter spirit with our own child, here are five must-know tips to help your egg hunt go smoothly (and leave everyone smiling).

1. Bring a Bigger Basket Than You Think

Those cute little Easter baskets? They fill up fast. Especially if your kiddo is on a roll, you’ll be juggling extra eggs before you know it. Go with something sturdy and roomy—bonus points if it has a handle that’s easy for little hands.

Tip: Reusable fabric totes or beach buckets are great alternatives.

2. Dress for the Weather and the Action

Yes, adorable spring outfits are tempting—but comfort wins the day. Opt for breathable clothes and sneakers (yes, even for moms!) and don’t forget sunscreen. This is Florida, after all. Hydration is also key, so bring those water bottles.

Tip: Skip the sandals—closed-toe shoes save little feet from ant piles and stubbed toes.

3. Start in the Back, Not the Front

Most kids run straight to the front of the field or yard. Guide your little one toward the edges or the back where eggs are often left behind. It gives them a better chance at filling their basket without the stress of a crowd.

Tip: Remind your child to look up and down—eggs love to hide in bushes and on low branches too!

4. Prepare for Surprises—and Disappointments

Tuck a couple of small prizes or extra eggs in your car just in case the hunt doesn’t go your kid’s way. A small surprise can turn around a tough moment and save the rest of your day.

Tip: A few toys, books, or a favorite snack can work magic.

5. Have Snacks Ready for After the Hunt

The post-hunt crash is real. All that running, sugar, and excitement leads to some serious grumpiness (from kids and parents alike). A quick snack or light picnic can help everyone reset.

Tip: Pack a few protein-rich snacks and wet wipes for sticky hands.
