What kind of food and drinks are available inside Universal’s DreamWorks Land?
Orlando Parenting chatted with Ron Cope, director of culinary and executive chef at Universal Orlando Resort, about all the DreamWorks-inspired food and treats found inside DreamWorks Land.
Cope describes DreamWorks Land as “very immersive with the sounds, water features, characters, and bright colors” displayed throughout. For him and his team, the challenge was to look at the intellectual properties represented in the area and develop some creative foods for guests to enjoy.
There are two food kiosks inside DreamWorks Land, Swamp Snacks, which serves up Shrek-inspired goodies and Trolls Treats, an ice cream spot with Branch and Poppy-themed cones.
There’s also a refrigerated section at the small gift shop kiosk inside the land, which sells bottled drinks like water and Gatorade.
Shrek-themed Treats at Swamp Snacks
Swamp Snacks, located just inside DreamWorks Land to the left of the entrance across from Shrek’s Swamp, is the spot for savory and sweet bites. Here, you’ll find everything from pizza waffles to dirt cup desserts, including the famous Shrekzel pretzel—a soft pretzel shaped like the green ogre’s head.
“We looked at all the different Shrek movies,” Cope says of planning the Swamp Snacks menu. “Donkey makes waffles, so we made a really cool pizza waffle. There’s a Shrek sour apple ogre [ice] pop and then, of course, the Chonkey Donkey [ice pop]. Whether you’re a chocolate fan or you just want to eat Shrek’s head, you’ve got two choices.”
“The Shrekzel is probably our most popular with our green, white cheddar sauce,” Ron Cope, Director of Culinary / Executive Chef at Universal Orlando Resort adds. “The Swamp Dog is amazing—it’s our regular pizza dough with an all-beef hot dog inside and sage derby cheese. It’s got a nice amount of pizza seasoning on top and it’s crispy on the outside and nice and moist on the inside. And then we have our Mud Puddle Pudding with chocolate ganache and pastry cream and, of course, Oreo cookie crumbs. And, because Shrek always eats centipedes, we found a gummy centipede.”
Menu Items and Prices at Swamp Snacks
- Shrekzel with green cheese sauce, $12.29
- Swamp Dog, $9.49
- Far Far a Waffle (available in pepperoni or ham and cheese), $11.49
- Mid Pie Pudding, $5.99
- Frozen Ogre, $6.99
- Chonkey Donkey, $6.99
Trolls-themed Treats at Trolls Treats
While there are no savory food items at Trolls Treats, the colorful ice cream served here is a must-try while visiting DreamWorks Land.
“There are two different types of ice cream, huckleberry and pink lemonade, both themed to each character (Poppy and Branch),” explains Cope. “I personally like the pink lemonade myself. It’s been very successful and has a few little sprinkles on it. And then we have a glitter spray we put on top. It’s super-popular with the hot weather and has done really well.”
Menu Items and Prices at Trolls Treats
- Poppy-licious Pink cone, $7.49 (pink lemonade flavored soft-serve with flower sprinkles)
- BroZone Berry cone, $7.49 (huckleberry flavored soft-serve)
Is Alcohol Available for Purchase in DreamWorks Land?
At both Swamp Snacks and Trolls Treats, there are alcoholic beverages available for the 21+ crowd to purchase. We spotted sips like High Noon seltzers, Angry Orchard ciders, and Sierra Nevada beers in the area, all priced between $11-$12 each.
Tips for Eating and Drinking at DreamWorks Land
To try the Shrek-tacular, Troll-tastic treats inside DreamWorld Land, you’ll need park tickets for everyone in your party since the land is located inside Universal Studios Florida.
The Trolls-themed ice cream cones are not to be missed, especially since they come in cute Branch and Poppy-wrapped cones. These treats are great on a hot day, but they melt fast and contain colorful food dye, so be sure to pack wipes or plan to clean up in the restrooms after snacking. (My 16-year-old son even managed to get messy eating his BroZone Berry cone.)
The savory items at Swamp Snacks, like the Shrekzel and the Swamp Dog, are big enough to share, so be sure to grab a few different treats and divide them up for everyone in your family to try.
There’s plenty of shade inside DreamWorks Land, from a shaded play area in the Trolls area to covered seating along the walls in the area where Po does his live kung-fu demonstration. Overall, there are some good shady areas for families to sit and eat their snacks out of the sunshine, although there are no dining tables.
Food and drinks are not allowed inside the theater where the DreamWorks Imagination Celebration show takes place, so eat those snacks before trying to enter the theater!
