Disney Cruise Line Trick or Treating: 3 Important Things to Know for Kids and Adults

The spooky season is quite magical, whether you’re a family or a grown adult who loves this silly season. While we are quite fond of all the Halloween events in Orlando, there is something truly special about this time of year aboard Disney Cruise Line. The Halloween on the High Seas with Disney Cruise Line offers enhanced character experiences, spooky decor in the lobby atrium, and special trick-or-treating aboard the Disney Cruise ships!

Trick-or-treating on Disney Cruise Line is included with every Halloween on the High Seas sailing. It’s simple enough, but there are three important things to know so you can have the best time. My family and I just returned from a hosted media trip with Disney Cruise Line, but I have sailed many times before as a regular guest.

Here are three important things to know before you don your costumes and snatch up all those treats on the high seas.

Things to Know

  • Trick-or-treating takes place on the designated Halloween themed night
  • On a 3 Night Cruise, it is scheduled on the second night
  • Costumes are not required
  • Bags will be provided for you
  • Allergy-friendly candy is available by request at each station

Disney Cruise Line Trick-or-Treat Tips

  • Arrive Early
  • Anyone can participate
  • Allergy Options

Arrive Early

The key to any successful Disney Cruise vacation is to get to know the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App. It is essential as it is the only place with daily schedules, plus the ability to reserve certain experiences, AND you can chat with your travel party through the app.

We had the early dining slot during our sailing aboard the Disney Magic in September 2024, to beautiful Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, so our trick-or-treating time was 8:30 p.m.

Aboard the Disney Magic trick-or-treating takes place at Cabanas, the buffet restaurant on Deck 9. We arrived around 8:10 p.m. and caught a few moments of The Nightmare Before Christmas movie on the massive funnelvision screen. Soon I noticed a line forming along the starboard side of the ship. A closer look revealed that this line led to the trick-or-treat stations inside Cabanas.

My husband stayed with our son while he stared gawk-eyed at the spooky movie, while I snagged our spot in line. Around 8:25 p.m. the line began moving quickly and by 8:30 p.m. we arrived inside Cabanas.

Anyone can participate

All guests sailing aboard a Halloween on the High Seas are welcome to participate in the trick-or-treat activity – even adults without kids.

We saw guests of all abilities, all ages, and all backgrounds participating. Plenty of guests donned awesome costumes, while others simply strolled up in their casual vacation gear.

Allergy-friendly options

The candy provided at each trick-or-treat station is the same throughout the line, and it is the same as what is offered at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World. Also the same is the selection of allergy-friendly treats. Brands like Yum Earth and Enjoy Life provided candy that Is free from eight major allergens.

My son utilizes the allergy-friendly candy. However, during the treat-or-treat event at Disney Cruise Line he didn’t want to have to ask for “allergy candy” at each station, so I did so. At the end of the trick-or-treating we simply swapped bags.

It took about 15 minutes of waiting in line, and then about 5-10 minutes through Cabanas to stop by each station. One visit was enough for us, but there is no shame in going back through a second time, as long as you go back to the end of the line.

You can also bring your bag full of trick-or-treat candy to the pool deck as you enjoy a family-friendly Disney movie on the funnelvision screen, and lounge in pool deck chairs.

This experience alone is not worth booking a Disney Cruise vacation, however, it is an added treat on what is already one of the best vacation experiences you could have with your family.
