Oh Hey! There’s a New Neighborhood Hang in Town
Living part time in Spain, I’ve always envied the Spaniards’ ability to plop a play structure or playground next to a bar or cafe. It’s a genius idea, and frankly one I’m not sure the Americans have discovered enough of yet. Until now, Orlando.
Thankfully there are a few kid-friendly coffee shops around town, and a few family restaurants. And now we have another great place to get some caffeine and quality time.

At Oh Hey Cafe (and their conjoined event space called Open House), parents can bring their little ones for some play time while enjoying a low key coffee or beverage at the same time. Just like the Spaniards, yea?!
I have taken the liberty of rounding up all the online reviews I could find, and made a trip over there to find out more for myself. Here’s what I learned:
What is Oh Hey Cafe
At its core, Oh Hey Cafe is a neighborhood coffee shop built with young parents in mind. I say this primarily because of their glass enclosed play space with a blonde wood climbing structure that looks so en vogue for the chic toddlers of the world.
Creating a positive energy space, they use retro vibes and simple modernist interiors. Their menu is simple and to the point, with a focus on community versus a grab-and-go society.
Sit awhile, let your children enjoy some of their own socialization, and be grateful that Oh Hey has just planned your next five Saturday mornings for you.
Who Is Oh Hey Cafe Good For?
Traditionally, a coffee shop should be advertised for everyone, and yes at its essence it is totally that. But, not every type of person walks into Starbucks, and not every type of person goes to Stardust Video & Coffee either.
So to slap a label on Oh Hey wouldn’t be fair, but I did read enough reviews to say this with confidence – if you’re not down with kiddos interrupting your coffee date, this may not be the place for you.
However, on the flip side of that – calling all Orlando mamas and papas out there – this spot is oh so welcoming, especially on a weekday with no school, or for the homeschool parents, or even though maybe busier, the weekend mornings too. It’s a spot to bring the kids, grandma and papa, and just enjoy a sit down with some coffee.
If you’re going there to work in a quiet coffee spot on your next great novel – just expect there will potentially be distractions.
Note: the play area and its lounge are separated by a door so that regular coffee-goers have their own chill space too.
What is Open House?
Alternatively, Open House is their community driven social hall concept where anyone can come and host an event, ranging from $75-$225 per hour. These could be book clubs, mom meetups or even kid’s birthday parties.

What it Isn’t
Oh Hey isn’t Starbucks, so don’t expect your super foam triple whip vanilla latte grande, or whatever your special order may be. Instead, it’s the basics – Americano, Espresso, Cortado, a couple of Chai or Matcha options, etc.
However, based on my personal experience, don’t come in expecting an amazing cup of coffee. Go for the communal vibes and stay for the playroom. Get yourself a pastry and some juice, perhaps.
Unfortunately, my coffee did not hit the spot, and I am generally not too picky. The quality of the roast and the taste have room for improvement.
What to Expect
A visit to Oh Hey Cafe is a relaxing spot, especially for parents of young children, where you can grab a coffee drink and a pastry, or a juice, kid’s snack or even kid’s hot drinks like their hot chocolate or steamer.
Everyone is welcome and there are no reservations or anything like that needed. Just come in, order a coffee, have a chat, and if you’ve got kiddos – let them play!
Play by the Rules
With the super sweet atmosphere of an open concept hall, the enclosed playroom is perfect for little ones ages 1-5. I understand that a lot of mamas get anxious when the bigger kids go to play in that room, so keep that in mind. There are no set age limits, and kids will need to be supervised.
Think of it like the playroom at certain fast food spots where parents can watch in from the glass windows, or at Oh Hey they can also hang inside and be close by.
Kids must take off their shoes, and play nicely of course! No food or drink is allowed inside the play area.
