Michaels Birthday Parties: Why Our Space-Themed Party Was So Easy to Host
Birthdays are a special time, but they can also be stressful for parents trying to plan the perfect celebration. Thankfully, Michaels in Winter Park made our son’s 7th birthday a breeze with their Space-tacular party theme. You may not think of Michaels Stores as being an ideal place for a child’s birthday party, but there are lots of perks and it’s a great break from all the typical birthday party venues.
These parties are available for ages 4-12, and after experiencing one, I feel ages 4-8 are ideal – it is a great choice for something hands-on, intimate, and stress-free.

Our experience was provided as a hosted event, and we were thrilled to see how easy and fun it was to celebrate in their creative space. Here’s what to expect and what’s included in the Michaels Birthday Parties experience.
Personalized and Festive Setup
From the moment we arrived, Michaels made our son feel special. A personalized welcome sign greeted him at the door of the party room, and the table was already set up with colorful party hats, bright red aprons, and all the supplies needed for the crafts. The decorations were simple but festive, with silver “Happy Birthday” balloons and a cheerful party atmosphere.
What’s even better? Michaels Birthday Parties provided all the essentials, including plates, napkins, utensils, and cups. I didn’t have to worry about cleanup either—they took care of all the trash and even had a sink with soap for quick cleanups during the party.
Hands-On Fun
The Space-tacular theme was a hit with the kids. They got to create foam rocket ships and intergalactic clay creatures, all while the friendly party captain guided them step-by-step. The crafts were age-appropriate, and even younger kids had plenty of help when needed. Parents could jump in to assist or simply relax and watch the fun.

Food and Drinks
While Michaels offers add-ons like pizza and soda, and we took advantage of this option. We ordered three pizzas and a two-liter of soda. The goodies were delivered about 30 minutes into the party and the kids devoured it!
I chose to bring my own juice boxes and fruit snacks, and placed them on the welcome table. As soon as each family arrived the kiddos immediately went for the juice boxes and snacks, I’m glad I had them ready to go. It was an easy way to keep everyone happy, though it’s worth noting that no ice was provided – but we didn’t find it necessary to have any.
Thoughtful Extras
One unique feature of the party room was a QR code at the back of the space, allowing parents to tip the party captain. Suggested tips ranged from $20 to $60, and it was a nice way to show appreciation for their hard work in making the party run smoothly.
I also brought along my Bluetooth speaker. Thankfully the party room had plenty of outlets making it easy for me to have some background music going. I also brought along a few toys to help my son while he waited for the party to begin. Turns out it was helpful for the kids too.
Our space-themed party included four craft projects and, truth be told, the kiddos lost interest about every 15-20 minutes – which is typical for kids their age. So they took a few breaks and played with the toys. Then with assistance from the Party Captain and myself we got them back to their workstations to continue the fun.
My son is not especially keen on arts and crafts, but he loved the final project with air-drying clay. Everyone made aliens and he chose to make his giant, using an entire package of clay and creating an alien who might live on Jupiter – the largest planet in our Solar System.
Oh! Michaels Stores also offers “Make and Mingle” parties for ages 14 and up.
Why It Was So Easy
What stood out to me was how stress-free the whole experience was. Michaels handled the setup, provided the decorations and supplies, and cleaned up afterward. The convenience of having everything in one place—crafts, party essentials, and cleanup—was such a relief as a busy parent.

Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a fun, creative, and stress-free way to celebrate your child’s next birthday, I do recommend Michaels Birthday Parties. Yes, it the experience was provided to us as a hosted experience. But I have researched enough places to hold a birthday party in Orlando to know the average cost and what is typically offered.
Their thoughtful touches and seamless organization made our son’s birthday one to remember, and I left feeling like I got to enjoy the party just as much as he did.
