Father-Son Activities in Orlando for Father’s Day and Beyond
For many, a cold drink, a delicious barbecue, and enjoying fun activities make for a great day together. When planning a father-son activity day, consider what your child enjoys and elevate it to suit both father and son. This Father’s Day, we’ve rounded up some fun ideas for your husband, your father, your sons, and others to enjoy together. Whatever he fancies, we’ve got you covered.
Beer, Barbeque and Burning Stuff
The south is known for BBQ and there is no shortage of traditional BBQ joints in town, so go do that…or, step it up a notch and discover Japanese yakiniku, similar to the growing in popularity Korean BBQ, at Gyu-kaku on Sand Lake and Turkey Lake Roads.

Cook your meats on a central grill top table and pair it with beer towers, ramen noodles, gyoza or whatever else your heart desires. The menu is huge and can be done a la carte, as fixed meals, or as an all you can eat extravaganza. Even better, meals end with DIY s’mores over the open grill AND they have a rewards program to earn you free dishes, even including free steak!
Optionally, dads may enjoy a tour of the brewery at Crooked Can Brewing in Winter Garden’s Plant Street Market, followed by a BBQ or pizza lunch from the folks within the market stalls. Tours are offered hourly on weekends and can be reserved online or walk-in.
Laugh in the Face of Danger
There’s some great axe throwing in Orlando, like Axecelsior in Dezerland with one dad’s hilarious Google comment that said, “walked in never throwing an ax before, walked out Paul Bunyan”. This amazing spot is perfect for adrenaline junkies and competitive spirits. The best part about Axecelsior Axe Throwing is that even the little ones can join in the fun. Under 8 can still play with soft target pads.
Dezerland has lots of fun indoor activities like bowling and a massive arcade too.
Finally, perhaps after the axe throwing, Dezerland also offers an Auto museum full of classic cars for all ages and enthusiasts to enjoy.
More axe throwing in Orlando:
Maybe danger for your father or husband is more of a literal, flying over alligators and doing death-defying stunts type of danger, and that’s cool. You can do that very thing at Gatorland Orlando – or just enjoy spending the day together exploring all the park has to offer.
Into reptiles but not sure you want to fly over them? Check out DeLand’s Reptile Discovery Center to learn about, hold, and see some of the most venomous snakes in the world. This snake encounter is a really interesting experience.
You can also explore fun bug-themed experiences in town, and dinosaur adventures too.
Sports and Speed
You can relive these glory days or make new memories at the Orlando Ice Den’s public skating rink. For around $20 a person, get your skates and time on the ice. Don’t forget to bundle up because it’s cold in there!!
Another awesome option for Dad’s with their sons is to check out Fun Spot down in Kissimmee next to OId Town. Buy a wristband for unlimited rides or purchase tickets as desired. I recommend the go kart tracks – they’re a little too exciting for this mama, but the boys and dads in our group loved it!
Afterward, have the boys celebrate their manliness and success with root beer floats at A&W in the adjacent Old Town.
Perhaps a slow paddle is more in order, in which case check out one of the many Central Florida Springs, or I suggest Wekiva Island for their rentals, food truck, live music and beachy atmosphere.
If speed is what they need, head out to the Black Hammock, where backwater eats meet the infamous Lake Jesup, full of over 13,000 gators relocated from all over the state.
This place is just nipping with gators and you’ll see tons of them on a fast-paced, exciting airboat ride around the water. If you have an adventure like mine, prepare to not only get wet (in the front row) – you will get soaked.
Don’t forget all of Central Florida’s amazing sports teams either – from soccer, basketball, ice hockey and more, we’ve got all the big teams for reasonable prices.
The Old Fashioned Dad
Lastly, the Old Fashioned Dad – this is my kind of speed, slow rolling, nostalgic, and simple fun. Enjoy $1 movies in Altamonte at the Picture Show at Altamonte Springs, or go for a cheap movie with a full meal at the dine-in Aloma Cinema Grill. There are many more Orlando events with movies for families.
Hit the (pint-sized) links at putt putt across the city – anywhere works, but I loved Pirate’s Cove Adventure Golf for their theming.
This Father’s Day, get out on the town with Dad in a big way. Enjoy wonderful eats, sunny days, and some nostalgic or even dare-devilish activities.
