4 Important Tips for the NEW Ferrari Build and Race Attraction at LEGOLAND Florida Resort

What happens when more than 819 horsepower combines with thousands of LEGO bricks? The answer sped into LEGOLAND Florida Resort this week in the form of a life-size LEGO Ferrari 296 GTS!

The amazing LEGO model is now available to see in person at the all-new interactive attraction, LEGO Ferrari Build and Race. You can even sit in it! This new experience opened on March 8, 2024 at the family theme park, and the experience puts the power, speed, and luxury of Ferrari directly into the creative hands of guests of all ages.

We love The Holidays at LEGOLAND, and it’s hard to beat Trick or Treating at LEGOLAND. And now we’ve experienced what happens when LEGOLAND teams up with Ferrari. It’s a hit with race car loving kids (and parents). After experiencing this attraction on opening day, we’re sharing three important tips to know before you go to Build and Race at LEGOLAND Florida.

LEGO® Ferrari Build & Race Important Tips

  • Expect a line to enter and see the LEGO Ferrari 296 GTS Model
  • There are multiple build tables, move toward the back
  • Try all the race ramps, each one is different
  • Virtual race course can scan all cars, including DUPLO

When you first arrive at LEGO® Ferrari Build & Race there will most likely be a line outside the building. Families enter the building one at a time in order to view and get pictures with the LEGO Ferrari 296 GTS Model.

LEGO Ferrari 296 GTS Model Facts

The LEGO Ferrari 296 GTS model took Master Model Builders 1,850 hours to build. This LEGOLAND “pit crew” involved a designer, six Master Model Builders, and three animators to ensure every detail matched that of the real sports car itself. Matching a Ferrari 296 GTS to the finest detail, the LEGO version is 15 feet long by 7 1/2 feet wide by 4 feet tall. It also weighs almost two tons!

With working headlights, a driver’s door that actually opens, and a roaring engine, the LEGO Ferrari 296 GTS is designed to inspire guests as they enter the garage of the new interactive LEGO Ferrari Build and Race attraction.

Our editor’s husband and son loved seeing this Ferrari model up close, AND sitting in the driver’s seat!

LEGO Ferrari Build and Race

Let’s take a quick look at what to expect at the new Ferrari attraction “LEGO Ferrari Build and Race”. This new family experience opened on March 8, 2024.

With three unique zones, LEGO Ferrari Build and Race is designed for guests to stretch their minds and creativity as they build a LEGO race car and then test its drivability.

Once you pass through the Ferrari Model area there is generally plenty of room to play inside the LEGO® Ferrari Build & Race building.

Build Stations

There is one brick build station as soon as you enter the race area after passing the Ferrari garage. If the first build station is busy and crowded look toward the back of the building, there are more stations in the back.

There are step-by-step instructions to build different versions of a Ferrari race car. Or you can simply let your imagination run wild with your own creation.

Test Tracks

Each track has different elements and is a different height. It can get a little chaotic here, so keep an eye on your little racers.

You may also find that the race cars can get a little wobbly. And as the race cars land at the end of the ramp some bumps may cause some pieces to come off. So be prepared for some adjusting.

Virtual Race

The third interactive digital zone allows guests to customize their car and participate in a virtual race for the checkered flag. This is perhaps the best part of LEGO Ferrari Build and Race.

You can scan the LEGO car you’ve built – and DUPLO cars work too! Or you can choose from “pre-built” cars. Once you’ve customized your car and loaded it on the virtual race course in front of you, there are buttons to push for switching lanes, and boost speed!

It’s hard to pull yourself or your kids away from this grand finale area. It’s pretty cool!

LEGO DUPLO Build Zone

LEGOLAND Florida Resort’s youngest drivers can also get in on pint-sized design fun and create their own designs in the LEGO DUPLO build zone, complete with larger bricks for smaller hands.

It’s a small area with one race ramp and one course, but it sure is precious. And don’t forget, you can scan DUPLO cars into the virtual race course right next to the DUPLO zone.

By the way, we LOVE all the DUPLO fun at LEGOLAND Resort Florida, and it is hard to be the Peppa Pig Theme Park for preschoolers – right next door!

This collaboration that puts visitors in the driver’s seat to build, test, and race their very own LEGO Ferrari with cutting-edge digital technology, builds on Merlin Entertainments’ successful relationship with Ferrari and includes the recently opened LEGO Ferrari Build and Race at LEGOLAND California, LEGOLAND Billund, and LEGOLAND Windsor Resorts.

LEGO Ferrari Build & Race is now open to the public as of Friday, March 8 at 10:30 a.m.

The attraction will be included in the price of admission to LEGOLAND Florida Resort. Annual pass and ticket prices, park operating schedule, and additional information are online at LEGOLAND.com or via the park’s social media channels.
