Many of Orlando’s most sought-after schools close applications months in advance. Missing a deadline could mean waiting another year or losing your spot in the lottery. By starting early, you’ll have time to tour campuses and complete paperwork stress-free.
Private Schools in Orlando
Private schools set their own admissions process and deadlines, often beginning applications in the fall for the following school year. Here are some of the most popular options in Central Florida:
- Cranium Academy – Cranium uses a rolling application model, has two locations, scheduling a tour is best
- Foundations Academy – Applications for the 2026–2027 school year opened on September 8, 2025 (featured image of this post provided by Foundations Academy)
- Lake Highland Preparatory School – Applications typically due in January; entrance testing required.
- Trinity Preparatory School – Rolling admissions, but priority deadlines in winter months.
- Montverde Academy – Application deadlines vary by grade; international applicants encouraged to apply early.
- Bishop Moore Catholic High School – Priority application season is late fall through early winter.
Parent Tip: Always check each school’s admissions page for the most current requirements, as deadlines can change year to year.

Charter Schools in Orlando and Central Florida
Charter schools are tuition-free public schools with specialized programs, operating on a lottery system if more students apply than spots available.
Parent Tip: Submit your application early in the window to ensure you’re entered into the first lottery drawing.
Magnet Programs
Public school magnet programs offer specialized tracks in STEM, performing arts, language immersion, and more.
- Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) Magnet Programs – Applications usually open in November and close in February.
- Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS) Magnet Programs – Applications typically open in October for middle and high school programs and in January for elementary programs, with deadlines extending through spring (March–May) depending on the school and grade level.
- Osceola County School District (SDOC) School Choice / Magnet Programs – For the 2025-2026 school year, applications are open November 20, 2025 – January 26, 2026, with notifications on February 13, 2026. The Osceola County School for the Arts (OCSA) magnet applications close earlier, on January 6, 2026. A late application period runs February 24 – May 2026 for remaining seats.
- Lake County Schools (LCSD) Educational Choice / Transfer (ECT) – The district runs an Educational Choice Transfer (ECT) program allowing students to apply to attend any traditional public (non-charter, non-magnet) school in Lake County (and in some windows, across Florida) if there is space.
Parent Tip: You must live within each County’s boundaries and complete applications online. Lake County’s ECT does sometimes accept students outside of the county.
Lake County families can apply to have their child attend a public school outside their zoned area through the district’s Educational Choice Transfer program. Applications are accepted in two main windows: February 3 – April 30 for Lake County residents and June 2 – June 30 for all Florida residents, with placement based on space availability and, if needed, a lottery. Transportation is not provided for out-of-zone placements.
