PBS KIDS’ Weather Hunters Premieres on WUCF: Science and Fun for Central Florida Families

|

My 7-year-old has been talking about this new PBS KIDS show for months, and we are officially counting down the days until it premieres! As an Orlando native, I love raising my son surrounded by so many amazing things for kids to do. Of course, living here also means keeping an eye on hurricane season and the challenges that come with severe weather.

Weather Hunters is a brand-new animated series from PBS KIDS, and it’s arriving just in time for hurricane season here in Central Florida.

Created by and starring Al Roker, the series premieres Monday, September 8 at 7:30 a.m. on WUCF. The show follows Lilly Hunter, a budding young meteorologist, and her science-savvy family as they explore the world of weather. From solving mysteries to explaining storms, Weather Hunters makes science fun while teaching kids how to stay safe—without making it scary.

What’s Weather Hunters All About?

Aimed at kids ages 5–8, the series follows the Hunter family: Lilly, her TV-meteorologist dad Al, her producer mom Dot, and siblings Corky and Benny, as they explore the science of weather with humor, tech gadgets, and hands-on discovery.

These characters do it all, like measuring wind speed, explaining thunderstorms, or investigating fall leaves. The Hunters help kids understand how weather works and why it matters.

Every 22-minute episode blends storytelling, earth science, math, and social-emotional learning, encouraging kids to observe the world around them and ask big questions.

Why It’s Perfect for Florida Families

With the peak hurricane season top of mind, Weather Hunters arrives at just the right time. The show introduces important concepts in a kid-friendly way, giving families the chance to talk about weather safety without fear.
