Explore EPCOT’s Butterfly Garden with These Expert Tips

The beauty of EPCOT is hard to beat. Whether you’re heading to Walt Disney World with younger kids or even teenagers, there is something special about exploring the butterfly garden, officially named Butterfly Landing presented by AdventHealth. This beautiful butterfly garden is only offered during the EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival, happening February 28 to May 27, 2024.

Besides the delicious Flower and Garden Festival food, there is lots to enjoy this time of year. The butterfly garden is one of our favorite things to do with kids at the Flower and Garden Festival.

After many years of visiting, I am sharing some quick, insider tips so you can have the best experience.

Get there early

Getting to any Disney theme park early is a good way to avoid long lines. And this is true for the butterfly garden. While it is perfectly fine to stroll through Butterfly Landing any time of day, having fewer people around means you can slow down.

The butterfly garden is one u-shaped path under a special covering. It only takes about 5-10 minutes to walk through, but it can be so relaxing and tranquil. If you visit first thing in the morning you can avoid big crowds and be able to take your time.

And, you’re likely to see more butterflies this way. When there are fewer people around, you can see more of the surrounding area.

Wear bright clothes

Why are flowers so brightly colored? Because pollinators are attracted to them! I am not saying it is guaranteed that you’ll be covered in these fluttering beauties, but wearing bright colors can help attract butterflies.

Solid bright colors work best. If your clothing is in a pattern it may not work as well. Besides solids look better in photos anyway.

Be patient

When viewing animals anywhere, like aquariums and zoos, or a pretty garden, it helps to be patient. Animals move at their own pace. Often if you wait just a few extra moments you’ll see what you’re looking for.

It also helps to look up and down, not just straight ahead. After all, butterflies are flittering and flying all around. During a few visits with my son, I noticed how some butterflies liked the bright colors and warmth of the signs around the garden. So be sure to look everywhere.

And don’t miss the chrysalis boxes. If you wait a few moments you might see some movement in a chrysalis. Once my son and I witnessed a butterfly hatching out of one! Certainly, this is a highlight of the EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival.

Be sweet

On my most recent trip to EPCOT with my son, I wish I had a packet of real sugar in my pocket. He kept holding his finger out in hopes a butterfly would land on it. Perhaps a sprinkle of sugar and a few drops of water would have done the trick.

It is said that even sweet-smelling lotion or perfume can help attract butterflies. Just be mindful of your fellow park guests and don’t overdo it.

EPCOT Butterfly Garden Location

The butterfly garden at EPCOT is located in the World Nature section, in between The Land and Imagination Pavilions. Entrance to the butterfly garden is included in regular theme park admission.

IMPORTANT NOTE – Butterfly Landing Presented by AdventHealth closes at dusk. It also opens late in the morning depending on temperature and other factors.

So remember, to enjoy EPCOT’s butterfly garden it is best to arrive early, be patient, wear bright colors, and bring a little sweetness with you. And while you’re at EPCOT be sure to stop by Journey of Water – Inspired by Moana, a favorite of ours.
