8 Space Attractions in Orlando and Beyond for Explorers and Families

| |

Orlando is best known for its world-class theme parks and sun-soaked pastimes, but the City Beautiful is also a great place for space enthusiasts eager to blast off into epic adventuring. That’s right—Central Florida is out-of-this-world when it comes to hands-on, family-friendly cosmic experiences! Whether your child dreams of becoming an astronaut or just wants to see what zero gravity feels like, Orlandoans basically have an entire universe waiting to be explored.

Countdown to the Best Space in Orlando

1. Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex

Merritt Island, FL

Okay, let’s start with the big one. A trip to Kennedy Space Center, just an hour’s drive, is the ultimate space experience. It’s where real rockets launch and history is made. Kids can walk beneath the massive Saturn V rocket, touch a moon rock, and explore the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame. The Shuttle Launch Experience gives families a heart-thumping simulated blastoff, and the Heroes & Legends exhibit adds a touch of inspiration.

The Planet Play area is uber impressive. Check out our blog featuring expert tips on navigating this stimulating area.

If your family’s lucky enough to time your visit with a real rocket launch (check the schedule online), you’ll witness something truly unforgettable. It’s a bucket-list-worthy trip that makes science feel super cool.

2. Emil Buehler Perpetual Trust Planetarium

Seminole State College, Sanford, FL

For a more intimate but no-less-awesome space outing, check out the Emil Buehler Planetarium at Seminole State College. It’s a hidden gem that’s perfect for Orlando families with curious kids who love stargazing and storytelling.

Their Friday night public shows are a fantastic way to wind down after a busy week. Picture stunning star displays, engaging astronomy lessons, and seasonal sky tours. It’s both educational and magical, with shows designed for a range of age groups. Best of all, it’s budget-friendly, and sometimes even free.

3. WonderWorks Orlando

International Drive, Orlando, FL

This upside-down building sort of looks like it crash-landed from another planet. Inside WonderWorks’ peculiar building, the Space Discovery Zone offers interactive exhibits that let kids explore life on Mars, try a space simulator ride, learn about the intricacies of astronaut gear, and much more (beyond the space theme too).

Younger children will love the glow-in-the-dark ropes course and laser tag, while older kids and tweens can try the astronaut training challenge or play around with gyroscopes. It’s all wrapped up in a science-meets-play theme that keeps the whole family entertained.

4. Mission: SPACE at EPCOT

Walt Disney World Resort

Head to EPCOT’s Mission: SPACE, where families can choose between two thrilling simulated missions. The Orange Mission is the high-intensity version that simulates G-forces as you launch to Mars (great for older kids and brave parents). The Green Mission is a gentler, Earth-orbit trip with less intensity (perfect for younger astronauts, anyone prone to motion sickness and my fellow wimps).

It’s one of the most realistic space ride experiences anywhere and a major highlight for any space-loving family visiting Disney. Oh, and as you exit Mission Space, plan to enjoy the Advanced Training Lab, an indoor playground that’s among the best play areas at EPCOT.

5. Space 220 Restaurant

EPCOT, Walt Disney World Resort

Right next to Mission: SPACE, discover one of the most immersive dining experiences in the galaxy: Space 220. This isn’t just a standard meal; it’s more of a space station adventure.

Guests “board” a special space elevator that takes you 220 miles above Earth (via a cool visual simulation), where you’ll dine with panoramic views of orbiting satellites, astronauts floating by, and the Earth far below.

The menu is kind of upscale but kid-friendly. And the entire experience—from the entryway to the space-themed food presentation—is a total blast. It’s perfect for celebrating a birthday or wrapping up a day of exploring EPCOT with a memorable and magical meal.

6. Celestial Park at Universal’s Epic Universe

Universal Orlando Resort, Orlando, FL

Mark your calendar for the opening of Celestial Park, part of Universal’s brand-new Epic Universe theme park set to open in May 2025. While full details are still under wraps, Universal has teased a dreamlike landscape full of cosmic energy, light-filled gardens, and starlit rides that blend fantasy and astronomy. Adrenaline junkers will love the Stardust Racers, a dueling roller coaster ride like none other.

This park aims to take guests on a whimsical journey through time and space; and while this theme park is very fantasy-driven, space explorers will love Celestial Park.

7. Orlando Science Center

Loch Haven Park, Orlando, FL

The Orlando Science Center (OSC) has something for everyone, including an entire area dedicated to the wonders of the universe. Check out the Our Planet exhibit for a cosmic look at Earth, the solar system, and the broader galaxy.

Be sure to check out the Lunar Lander Simulator to experience the challenges of landing on the moon, as well as the Rocket Builder where you can design and test your own rockets. Also head to the Dr. Phillips CineDome for jaw-dropping planetarium shows and nature documentaries on a massive domed screen.

OSC also offers regular hands-on activities and rotating space-themed exhibits that allow kiddos to build, experiment, and launch their curiosity sky-high.

8. UCF’s Robinson Observatory

University of Central Florida, East Orlando, FL

Ever looked through a high-powered telescope and spotted Saturn’s rings or Jupiter’s moons? You can do just that and more at Robinson Observatory, located on the UCF campus. Their Knights Under the Stars events are open to the public and totally free.

These stargazing nights are low-key, educational, and awe-inspiring. UCF’s staff and students are on hand to help kids learn about celestial navigation, current space discoveries, and how to find constellations in the night sky. It’s a peaceful way to spark a lifelong love of astronomy. Do bring a blanket and snacks and settle in for a night under the stars.
